SOLAR HERITAGE – Longevity, quality and environmentally friendly
The Lynch Motors team recently spent a couple of days at Chichester Harbour upgrading the Solar Heritage, a pollutions-free, solar powered catamaran.
The Solar Heritage provides educational boat trips for schools, encouraging children to consider climate change, renewable energy and the impact on wildlife. So, it is a boat that gets lots of constant use.
This is a catamaran, originally built in Switzerland using our system in the 1990's. Over the years we have made a few changes to the complete configuration to ensure continuous use. Recently we have upgraded to the latest build specification, now that the climate is changing we wanted to ensure another 20+years!!
20 years in great working order is certainly a testament to the quality and longevity of the Lynch Motor system and servicing.
The recent upgrade included new Twin Marlin 8 drive system and adaptions to the set up to improve current handling. Over the years we have completed several site visits to ensure everything is operational and added additional features to make it easier for the crew to understand and work with the drive system.
The vessel has two sources of energy, electromagnetic energy from the sun and conventional energy from the national grid.
Being electrically driven, rather than fuel driven, the vessel is extremely quiet, so it does not disturb the wildlife. There are also no CO2 emissions and no wash to cause erosion to the estuary bank or salt marsh.
Chichester harbour have also converted a work boat to electric using one of our Marlin systems. Lynch has an ever-growing Harbour Master customer base in which we convert work boats to fully electric.
