Here at Lynch Motor's we designed and manufactured a pair of 14kW, 48v motors to power the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Royal Barge.
The pair of electric motors were designed to drive twin propellers which would help assist the 22 oarsmen propelling the rowboat down the Thames during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee flotilla in 2012.
The electric pancake motors operated at 7-8kW were designed to drive the propellers at just under 1000 rpm via a 2:1 reduction system, allowing them to propel the barge at about 8 knots.
The Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
The Diamond Jubilee was marked by a flotilla of over 1,000 boats, lead by the Gloriana, carrying more than 20,000 people including The Queen and Prince Phillip.
We were pleased to be given the opportunity to design and manufacture a bespoke marine drive system that covered all the specific requirements.
Did you know?
The Lynch Pancake Motor is an electric motor designed with an efficiency of over 90%. It was important for this prestigious royal
event that our motors were British-Made, clean and economical.
