We were asked by the BBC to develop and build an electric drive system for a G-Wiz in order for it to beat a Ford Mustang in a drag race.
When we were approached with the task of modifying a G-Wiz so it would go from 0-60mph in under 5 seconds and go on to complete a quarter of a mile in just under 13 seconds in order to beat a Ford Mustang, we didn't think it was possible!
Did you know?
The Lynch electric motors installed in the Top Gear G-Wiz powered it to a top speed of over 95mph!
As part of the 2007 BBC Top Gear Christmas Special, LMC helped 'pimp' the much ridiculed Indian electric car, the G-Wiz. The vehicle, normally capable of a maximum speed of 40mph, was stripped out to reduce weight and was controlled remotely.
We then kitted it out with four LMC motors, a set of Enersys tank batteries and changed the drivetrain considerably. The results were staggering, with the improved vehicle able to outperform a 500hp Shelby Mustang!
